"The directional information in the waggle dance can deviate by around 30 degrees for food sources approximately 100 meters away," Straw explains. "But our research shows that bees are much more accurate when navigating to familiar destinations."
In other words, the waggle dance may not reflect the true navigational abilities of bees. Instead, it seems that individual bees are far more precisely oriented in space than their dance communication would suggest.
